Nottinghamshire weddings

Photographing a wedding is a great responsibility, but with preparation and a few helpful hints, it can even be fun. You might like to read a few tips before you comit Get a contract which specifies the plan, exactly what the couple will receive, and any liabilities you may accept in the event that they are unhappy with the pictures. If at all possible, learn your trade by working as a good associate or second photographer for a experienced professional. If perhaps you have never worked on a wedding, only accept the job if couple hadn't originally budgeted for a full time photographer. Arrange meeting with the partners to discuss their wedding day. Ask for a shot list. Go to the rehearsal to pick up an plan of how the big day might progress. It also gives you an opportunity to meet the bridal party. Contact the ceremony facility and investigate their guidelines on photography. Many churches and temples allow flash during the entrance and couple leaving the ceremony but not for the duration of the ceremony. The officiate can also have strong thoughts about where photographers will need to stand through the ceremony. Dress correctly. Dress like a wedding guest and don't upstage the groom. Take along at least two of every thing: two camera bodies, at the least two lenses, two flashes, and extra memory cards and more batteries for all your kit. If you will need it for the job, you will need two, even if you have to rent it. Bring enough lenses to have good range. You will need a wide -angle lens along with a decent telephoto or zoom lens. If the lenses may not be fast or sharp enough, rent them. Understand your gear. Read the manuals and understand every feature on your camera. Understand how to do the job with available light and the way to use fill flash. Set the camera to RAW. This can offer considerably more flexibility in the course of postwork. Arrive some time before the wedding. This is your opportunity to get behind-the-scene photos of the wedding couple. Don't forget, these are generally exciting, but tense times for wedding couple, so hang back, and focus on candid shots. Shoot the details. The flowers, the shoes, the cake will be all part of the special day and the story you are trying to show. Turn off any sound on your camera for the service. It is your profession not only to record the important moments but also to ensure that no one notices you doing it. Most husbands and wives expect photographers to make traditional portraits alongside with photojournalistic candids. Try to get the girls and boys independently before the wedding ceremony. After the ceremony and receiving line, corral the wedding party for group portraits. Start with the largest groups, whittling down the smallest combinations of families and friends so that people can hit the bar or buffet. Make pictures of family and friends at their tables, but be respectful and stay clear of photographing people during meal courses. Nobody looks his or her best with a mouthful of greens. After the portraits, retreat to the background, but be sure to be available for any photos the couple or their mother and father could possibly want. Make sure sideshows are ready when the happy couple comes back from their honeymoon. If the couple are delighted with their pictures or album, request a testimonial. Referrals and testimonials are the lifeblood of your wedding photography business. Thank the new Mr and Mrs for the opportunity before and after the wedding, make sure you check with them that you are done just before you depart.

Church wedding photography in Derbyshire

St Michael with St Mary, Church Melbourne Derbyshire

Long ago in medieval times, marriage was much more informal. Young couples could make a promise to the other in front of a witness at any location or time, and this was realised as a binding contract. In fact, it was considered enough to call God as a witness; His power was considered to be enough to override His lack of physical presence! This however led to many a Knight making a proclamation of marriage to a girl, having his wicked way then vanishing, leaving her to endure the consequences.

As many marriages were organized to bring money or power into the family, or to keep up status and position in the local community, arranged marriage ceremonies between members of the family were widespread. In the 11th century the Council of Westminster decreed that no man could organize the marriage of any female in his family group without having church approval, and over time the church began to have an influence, restricting inter family relationships and carrying the ceremony into the Church itself.

To start with, weddings typically took place in the church porch, which is why this space is often so large in many churches. By the 15th century, Trent Council decreed that any wedding that took place with out a priest was nullified, and the Church was now established as the only place to get married. The ordinary form of the marriage vows, “To have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, in sickness and in health, till death do us part” were being incorporated into the Book of Common Prayer in 1552 and have played a core part in church weddings since.

The architecture of many of our churches makes for quite charming settings, and the grounds of the church have turn into the traditional area for many of the professional photographs to be taken. Both the signing of the register and the happy family group outside the church door are crucial pictures for both the professional photographer and the happy family snappers!

Chocolate Wedding Favours

Jen's wrappers

At this moment you are well on the way to organizing your ‘Perfect Wedding’ the flowers, car, venue, photographer etc are all booked and deposits paid, but now you are caught up on the smallest thing of all – the wedding favours.

The dilemma is that offering a personalised favour can be highly expensive, especially if you go down the route of getting some thing small etched with the guest’s name on. Yes you can pick the particular item up quickly and cheaply, but then you prefer to customise it so how about getting it engraved with the wedding day and unique names on, shouldn’t be too much, but just remember you have upwards of sixty guests for the wedding breakfast, and what about the evening guests and children, you will want to give them each a wedding favour.

Then consider what happens to the favour once the wedding is over and the guest takes it home with them, or not. It will get put in a cupboard out of sight, and then gets left, which means you’ve invested all that money and thought for something that gets hidden away, or left at your wedding party.

wedding day superstitions

Much of the superstition that has grown around weddings over the generations started out as ways to assure good luck, prosperity, happiness and fertility to the newlyweds. Another very important aspect was to confuse or drive away all evil spirits that sought to spoil the wedding day.

THE PROPOSAL,

On the wedding day, while on the way to the bride’s family, superstition has it that the groom’s representatives had to avoid blind men, monks and pregnant women; although goats and pigeons were considered lucky. For the bride, practicing writing her new name was and still is thought of as being very unlucky, and taking on a surname that started with the same letter as her own denoted unhappiness to come.

THE CHURCH,

On the way to the church, superstition dictates it was lucky for the bride-to-be to see herself in the mirror once before she left, but not to look in a mirror again after leaving the house. Seeing a chimney sweep was very lucky, and sweeps can still be hired today to bestow good luck on the couple. Lambs, black cats and rainbows were all good omens, pigs, crowing cocks monks and nuns were all bad.

SOMETHING BLUE,

Everybody knows the “something old, something new, something borrowed something blue” rhyme, which is a Victorian superstition. The” something blue” was traditionally a blue ribbon. Full details on our site

The couple relax on a park bench

Close to the registry offices of many towns in Derbyshire are a selection of well managed public parks and gardens, several with parking close by. Numerous town parks will include mature trees to pose alongside, shrubs and flowerbeds to provide some background interest, with a little bit of thought and preparing the public park can be utilized to provide a wide choice of places for your wedding photography couple session. Crossley Park is a short walk from the Amber Valley registry office and Town Hall carpark in Ripley, nevertheless the bride in new shoes may perhaps want to arrange a car for the short drive.

The park provides many possibilities for your wedding photography, with several good benches around the central bandstand leaving Crossley Park the best location for your wedding photography following your Ripley registry office wedding. Whist the mature trees and shrubs and the well looked after lawns and walkways make Crossley Park most suitable for your couple portrait photography session, the large open spots can be put to use for your larger friends and family group photographs, those of your wedding party and the very important everyone shot. Smaller group photos can be made with the bandstand or on the smaller lawns bounded by flower beds. Our Ripley Wedding Photography.

They add beauty and perfume, and they can carry a lot of hidden meaning. Even the buttonhole for the groom has its origins in Knights carrying the favours of their ladies.
